Projects 2013 > The Secret Lives of Books > Journal
Early this week I entered into my first foray into the world of Pinterest: trying to get all our collective thoughts, and stimuli into a communial space.
And it worked: We realised reviewing these boards (which are growing daily) that we'd missed a key element: How people will engage with the space itself. What constrains people, what helps people move.
One white board (Colourful, hey?) brainstorming session later:
And some rapid prototyping: and Ta dah:
Our first cardinal- a book tree- like really - that holds books and things. Just add bar code reader, and a leaf shaped book clip.
(I've heard stories that the word 'Just' is a very dangerous one in projects!).
UPDATE: Book Tree A-Numero-Two, oh, and the first clip prototype. Oh cardboard, you are a rapid prototyping dream.

Hi guys-
Love the idea of a book tree that holds magical, suggestive, rotated, undiscovered books. How about saplings or accorns around the base of your tree that hold books that younger readers can reach? Will also help you separate out your Mr Men books from your 50 shades -only small adult women like me will be disadvantaged by not being able to reach the adult content!
(and in my opinion it's only developers that have issues with the word 'just'! Tea and biscuits tends to encourage them past this sticking point)
Good luck ;-)

Hello Charlotte,
So glad you like the idea- the second prototype is almost finished and I feel doubly excited as it does indeed contain a lower shelf for anyone who would like to use it.
New photos to follow, after a final bit of cutting and constructing.
