The tip of the diamond… Projects thinking big
It seems the right moment to be updating the world on where our six Future Documentary projects are at as they’re now nearly one month deep into the Sandbox.

Posted by Matt DavenportToday I’m pleased to announce the successful Future Documentary Sandbox projects; Six new collaborations between academics and creative companies to develop forward thinking propositions exploring the future for the documentary form. I’m so pleased that we have such a diverse range of backgrounds and disciplines in the cohort and an amazing melting pot of ideas and approaches, bringing together leading academic researchers and experts in documentary filmmaking and digital innovation.
Posted by Matt DavenportThe REACT team have been very busy since the Future Documentary Ideas Labs, meeting with people across South West and Wales to discuss their sandbox applications. We are very excited by the range and potential of the collaborations we have seen but are aware that Easter holidays have made the timescales feel very tight. We have therefore decided to extend the deadline for applications by five days:
The new deadline for Future Documentary Sandbox applications is 5pm on Wednesday 17 April.
Posted by Simon MoretonAs you develop your applications for the Future Documentary Sandbox and refine your ideas, we've been thinking about what makes a Future Doc project exciting, innovative and successful.
We've clearly hit a wave with this theme. There are lots of companies out there interested in exploring the potential of interactive documentary, collaboration and new platforms. What would make them good for REACT?
Posted by Simon MoretonThere’s no doubt that how we connect with stories is changing. Within the context of a networked culture, regular programmed services are being disrupted and new approaches are opening up. Audiences are playing a more participatory role in shaping their own viewing experience, with collaborative authorship, interactive tools and multiple platforms all blurring the boundaries between producer and audience: right now there are more people logged on to Facebook than even existed in the world 200 years ago, which I find a really startling statistic.
Posted by Simon MoretonOn Wednesday 30th January at 10.15am, members of the REACT team will be discussing 'Future Documentary' at BBC Broadcast and Beyond, part of Digital Bristol Week. The event is hosted at BBC Bristol.
Posted by Simon MoretonThe internet, user generated content and changing audience expectations have all disrupted what we understand by traditional documentary media. REACT's Future Documentary Sandbox scheme will fund collaborations between academics and companies that explore the overlap between broadcast and the internet, creating new forms and content for the documentary space.
