I am Seeing Things

by TOTem

I am Seeing Things exhibition was held at the Scottish Fisheries Museum and is one of the exhibitions associated with the ToTEM project.

TOTem was an EPSRC funded project exploring social memory in the emerging culture of the Internet of Things

In order to represent some of the memories TOTem had collected, they created a series of interactive plinths upon which key objects were displayed, inviting visitors to interact with them.

The design of the exhibition and plinths invited the visitor to scan tags (RFID) attached to objects sitting on the plinths, with the instructions ‘Scan tag here’. The visitor could then listen to the story associated with that object.

What we really like:

The way in which a story, that is associated to a particular object is told and experienced by an audience.

Some other thoughts:

This exhibition is one of the best examples of how to utilise RFID technology to tell stories through objects. RFID is often used in this way to tell stories associated with objects, and any future examples would have to recognise this and offer something new.

Please Note: All of these examples are intended for inspiration purposes only and are a curated selection of what currently exists within the Internet of Things and Academic Research.  As ideas they may not have been eligible for Objects Sandbox.
